1. Acceptance of Terms
By installing, accessing, or using MarkView ("the Extension", "Service", "Software", "we", "us", or
"our"), you ("User", "you", or "your") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms",
"Agreement"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not install or use the Extension.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and MarkView.
2. Description of Service
MarkView is a Chrome browser extension that provides markdown file rendering and viewing
capabilities. The Service includes but is not limited to:
Markdown to HTML rendering with GitHub Flavored Markdown support
Syntax highlighting for 180+ programming languages
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable,
revocable license to install and use MarkView for personal or commercial purposes.
3.2 License Restrictions
You agree NOT to:
Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code from the Extension
Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the Extension
Copy, reproduce, or redistribute the Extension
Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
Sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or distribute the Extension to third parties
Use the Extension for illegal purposes or to violate any laws or regulations
Use the Extension to harm, disable, overburden, or impair any server or network
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems through the Extension
Use the Extension to transmit viruses, malware, or malicious code
3.3 Reservation of Rights
All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by MarkView. The Extension is licensed, not
sold.
4. User Responsibilities
4.1 Account and Device Security
You are solely responsible for:
Maintaining the security of your device and browser
All activity that occurs through your installation of the Extension
Ensuring your Chrome browser is up-to-date and secure
Protecting your locally stored settings and preferences
4.2 Content Responsibility
You acknowledge and agree that:
MarkView renders markdown content as-is without filtering or modification
You are responsible for the safety and legality of markdown files you open
You must have the legal right to access and view all files you open with the Extension
Markdown files may contain raw HTML, JavaScript, or other code that will be rendered
We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or safety of any markdown files you view
You should not use the Extension to view untrusted or potentially malicious markdown files
4.3 Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Extension only for lawful purposes and in compliance with:
All applicable local, state, national, and international laws
Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies
These Terms of Service
Any third-party terms that apply to external content you access
5. Privacy and Data
Your privacy is critically important to us. Please review our comprehensive Privacy Policy to understand our data practices.
Privacy Highlights:
We do NOT collect, store, or transmit your markdown file contents
Settings are stored locally on your device only
No analytics, tracking, or data collection
No servers or databases
6. Third-Party Services and Content
6.1 Google Fonts
MarkView uses Google Fonts CDN for custom typography. When you use custom fonts:
Font files are loaded from Google's servers (fonts.googleapis.com)
Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy apply
You can avoid this by selecting the "Default" font option
6.2 External Markdown Sources
When viewing markdown files from external websites (GitHub, GitLab, etc.):
You are subject to those platforms' terms of service and policies
We are not responsible for external content availability or accuracy
External services may track your access to their content
6.3 Third-Party Links
Markdown files may contain hyperlinks to third-party websites. We:
Do not endorse or control third-party websites
Are not responsible for third-party content, terms, or privacy practices
Recommend reviewing the terms and privacy policies of websites you visit
6.4 Open Source Components
MarkView incorporates open source libraries, each governed by their respective licenses:
markdown-it - MIT License
highlight.js - BSD 3-Clause License
KaTeX - MIT License
Mermaid - MIT License
These components remain under their original licenses and are not covered by these Terms except as
incorporated into MarkView.
7. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
7.1 "AS-IS" and "AS-AVAILABLE" Basis
THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS,
IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Implied warranties of merchantability
Fitness for a particular purpose
Non-infringement
Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of content or functionality
Uninterrupted or error-free operation
Freedom from viruses or harmful components
7.2 No Guarantees
We do not warrant or guarantee that:
The Extension will meet your specific requirements
The Extension will be available at all times
The Extension will be compatible with all systems or configurations
All markdown features will render correctly in all cases
The Extension will work with all markdown files or formats
Errors or bugs will be corrected
7.3 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MARKVIEW, ITS DEVELOPERS, OR
AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY:
Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities
Damage to your device, system, or data
Cost of procurement of substitute goods or services
Business interruption or loss of goodwill
WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF
WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
AGGREGATE LIABILITY CAP: Our total liability for all claims related to the Extension
shall not exceed ten U.S. dollars ($10.00 USD) or the amount you paid for the Extension in the past
twelve months, whichever is greater. For the free version, this limit is $10.00 USD.
7.4 Jurisdictional Limitations
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In
such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
8. Updates and Modifications
8.1 Extension Updates
We may release updates, patches, or new versions of MarkView at any time. Updates may:
Add new features or functionality
Fix bugs, security vulnerabilities, or performance issues
Modify or remove existing features
Change user interface or user experience
Update dependencies or libraries
Updates are delivered automatically through the Chrome Web Store. You consent to automatic updates by
installing the Extension.
8.2 Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes:
We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
Significant changes will be communicated through extension update notes
Your continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance
If you do not agree to modified Terms, you must stop using the Extension and uninstall it.
9. Intellectual Property Rights
9.1 Ownership
MarkView, including all software code, design, user interface, graphics, documentation, branding, and
related materials, is owned by us and protected by:
Copyright laws
Trademark laws
Trade secret laws
Other intellectual property laws and treaties
9.2 Trademarks
The MarkView name, logo, and related marks are our trademarks. You may not:
Use our trademarks without prior written permission
Use marks that are confusingly similar to ours
Display our trademarks in a way that implies endorsement
9.3 Feedback and Suggestions
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Extension:
You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use them
We have no obligation to implement your suggestions
We may use feedback without attribution or compensation
10. Termination
10.1 Termination by You
You may terminate this Agreement at any time by:
Uninstalling the Extension from Chrome
Removing the Extension via chrome://extensions
10.2 Termination by Us
We reserve the right to:
Discontinue the Extension at any time with or without notice
Remove the Extension from the Chrome Web Store
Terminate your access if you violate these Terms
Modify or limit functionality without liability
10.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination of this Agreement:
Your license to use MarkView immediately ends
You must uninstall and cease all use of the Extension
Locally stored settings will remain until you clear Chrome data
Sections 7, 9, 11, 12, and 13 of these Terms survive termination
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MarkView, its developers, affiliates, and partners
from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees)
arising from or related to:
Your use or misuse of the Extension
Your violation of these Terms
Your violation of any third-party rights (intellectual property, privacy, etc.)
Content you access or view using the Extension
Your violation of any applicable laws or regulations
12. Dispute Resolution
12.1 Informal Resolution
Before initiating formal legal action, you agree to contact us at markview.app@gmail.com and attempt to resolve disputes
informally for at least 30 days.
12.2 Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction where
MarkView is registered, without regard to conflict of law principles.
12.3 Venue and Jurisdiction
Any legal action or proceeding arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in courts
located in Vietnam. You consent to personal jurisdiction in these courts.
12.4 Arbitration (Optional)
We may elect to resolve disputes through binding arbitration instead of court litigation, except
where prohibited by law. Arbitration will be conducted by a neutral arbitrator and judgment may be
entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
13. Miscellaneous Provisions
13.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us
regarding the Extension and supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications.
13.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, invalid, or illegal, that provision
shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full
force and effect.
13.3 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such
right or provision.
13.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights hereunder without our prior written
consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
13.5 Force Majeure
We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond our
reasonable control, including acts of God, war, terrorism, riots, natural disasters, or government
actions.
13.6 Export Compliance
The Extension may be subject to export control laws. You agree to comply with all applicable export
and import laws and regulations.
14. Geographic Availability
MarkView is available globally through the Chrome Web Store. However:
Some features may not be available in all countries
We make no representation that the Extension is appropriate for all locations
You are responsible for compliance with local laws in your jurisdiction
We reserve the right to restrict availability in certain regions
15. Future Paid Features and Services
MarkView is currently offered free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid features,
premium tiers, or subscription services in the future.
If we introduce paid features:
All existing free features will remain free (grandfathered)
New premium features will be clearly marked and optional
Separate payment terms, refund policies, and subscription terms will apply
You will not be automatically enrolled in paid features
Purchase of paid features will constitute acceptance of additional terms
16. Chrome Web Store Compliance
MarkView complies with Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies. You acknowledge that:
Google may remove the Extension from the Chrome Web Store for policy violations
You agree to comply with Chrome Web Store User Terms
Google is not a party to these Terms
Google has no responsibility or liability for the Extension
